Caring for Kids with Cancer: Ride 4 Erik educates about childhood cancer with the goal of helping find a cure.
The nonprofit organization (501 c3) was inspired by the real life story of Erik Zimmerman, who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma—a malignant tumor of the central nervous system arising in the cerebellum—that required surgery at the tender young age of 18 months in 1992. Erik’s journey to wellness included many operations and convalescences, not only for the cancer, but also for the unintended consequences of his anti-cancer therapy. Despite years of challenges, Erik recently celebrated his nineteenth birthday. To read about his amazing journey, go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/erikzimmerman.
Although the Ride 4 Erik organization began as a motorcycle run to help its namesake in 2007, it now raises money and awareness for other childhood cancer victims and includes various events such as a highly successful Wine Tasting for a Cure held in May 2010 in Lambertville, NJ. Other events scheduled for this year include a Rally with entertainment, food and vendors, a Comedy night at the Lambertville Rescue Squad, and a Craft Fair in Ringoes, NJ.
